Ship SAILED South

San Blas

Like sailing into another universe. This little town holds a rich history. During the 18th Century around 1768 San Blas was the most important sea port in New Spain on the Pacific side of Mexico. One of the oldest churches on this side of Mexico can also be found in San Blas. A significant Spanish colonial port as a vital naval base, shipyard, and departure point for expeditions to California and the Philippines, featuring forts and customs houses. It played a role in Mexican independence
I sail up into the very shallow river and see only 1.5 feet below my keel. A bit of stress as I slowly inch up the old town. My first ever river anchorage. What an experience to be part of.

I get the pleasure of meeting up with Max, Brenda, and sweet little Charlotte whos only 3 months old! She’s the result of a few dates when I last sailed with Max and Brenda one year ago around the south tip of the Baja from Las Angelas to Mazatlan.

The bells of San Blas. Days and night. Lots of No-See-Um bugs. Crocodiles up the river and waste and rubbishy flowing down the river to the sea.
Few drunken nights partying with sailors at the Social Club. This place sucks me in.

Its not time to depart and make my way down the isolated coast towards Puerto Vallarta.
